Thanks for your votes in the Nikoli Derby - 7th world championship. The champion horse was Ghoulish Delight starting from gate 2 with the horse owner swankgd.

The champion gate number 2 is the second lowest gate number, after the 5th world championship. Many greedy horses rushed to Gate 1 aiming to win and fell from their horses before reaching the goal. The champion's inference and strategy were superb!

We are now quite sure you know what the Nikoli Derby is all about.

The winning numbers of the past are mostly odd numbers. Most of the time 11 does not appear in the other race results, except one time as 4th place. I think that people are less likely to pick odd numbers... especially one that hasn't won first place before. I think that I have a chance at one of the top five places!

~500 entries in 50 gates is rather a lot. This information is available to everyone else, and so one might expect the trend to be choose large gates (perhaps >25). On the other hand, this information is also available to be deduced by everyone else, and so the option of choosing a very low number might appeal to a few speculative entries. If I am fortunate, I will have judged the level at which the balance between speculative bets cancel each other out correctly!

How the winners are ranked

The gate number is the key to winning the Nikoli Derby. The smallest gate number chosen by only one person is the winner. If two or more persons choose the same gate number they will lose the race. This means that you have to choose the smallest number that nobody else has chosen to win the race. What is the smallest number from 1 to 50?

Right, of course gate number 1 has the greatest advantage, but other horse owners know that too. If say, two or more horses are entered for each of gates 1 to 20, then the horse starting from gate 21 will win. Now, you have to guess the "smaller number" of those where you will be the only starting horse. The final ranking is ordered from smaller to larger numbers.
